Hunting
Arrowhead Lodge was started in 1998 with 140 acres, with expansion over the years, up to the present 1500 acres. We have 8 locations which we rotate to maintain quality hunts. Our hunting areas include 120 acres in the Northwoods, 150 acres in Death Valley, 400 acres at Big Daddy’s, 27 acres at South Farm, 155 acres at the Hawkin’s Farm, 40 acres at Mini Ponds, 380 acres at the Gorham Farm and 200 acres at Sandusky. And for you goose hunters, we have 20 acres at Black Creek, which joins Horseshoe Refuge on both sides. We have a 140 acre rest area for the ducks, that has never had a shot fired over it since 1999 . We usually hold over 5000 ducks in the rest area during hunting season.
I started guiding in the 70’s with Collin Cain at the infamous “Black Hole”. In the 80’s, on a duck hunt in Canada, I had the opportunity to hunt with Dick Dempsey (Doctor Duck). He was instrumental and informative on the development of the flooded standing cornfield method. That is, flooding a cornfield up to its ears so the ducks could feed. Next year I bought a $300 lift pump, flooded 10 acres of corn and with the help of some local mallards I developed my first hunting area called the “Seed Hole”. We now have 3 deep wells around the club area and 5 deep wells at other farms.
Arrowhead offers a broad range of hunting experiences. We offer hunting packages for ducks, late season snow geese, and a limited amount of Canadian. Arrowhead offers a 3-day turkey-hunting package in Illinois and Missouri. We also offer a shotgun package or a bow-hunting package in Illinois. We offer a Missouri 5-day rifle hunting package and a bow hunt package with a limited number of deer harvested. We maintain quality bucks.
